April Minutes

Events Calendar & Meeting Minutes >>

Guests at the meeting:

Scotty & Tessa Peterson were just married at the end of May. Tessa brought Scotty to off-roading. He just bought a 1981 Toyota shortbox.

Looking Ahead:

May 3rd: EITC Car show in Idaho Falls from 10 am to 4 pm.  If you want to go and check our all the cars, admission is free.  If you want to enter your rig, there is a $5.00 registration fee.  There’s supposed to be food and fun.  Check it out at www.eitcskillsusa.com   You don’t have to have a super nice rig to enter it in the show folks.

May 10th: Clean up at Hell’s Half Acre.  Those who came to the meeting got a map to the trail site.  We’ll meet at 8 a.m. at the Chevron across from Dad’s (because – as Eric pointed out – it has an A & W… plus it has more parking than Dad’s)  Don’t forget to bring your gloves, rakes, shovels, etc. and a picnic lunch.  Note for the Shelley Lava flows (and basically everywhere else):  Wheel responsibly.  There have been some people who have gone out there and torn up stuff.  We want wheelers to be seen in a positive light, so treat everything you come across with respect and don’t tear things up.  Land use is a privilege, NOT a right.  If there are people abusing it, it will be taken away from everyone.

May 22nd – 24th: Fun crawl in Delta, Utah to benefit U4WDA.  This is a free event.  It’s free to camp and to compete.  They will be taking donations if you choose.  Sounds like a good time! It would be good for us to go down and support them, so that if we ever have a similar event they’ll do the same.

May 29th: May meeting at Godfather’s Pizza.

May 30th: Overnight camping trip to Mackey.  Details coming soon.

June 7th:  Club BBQ.

Meeting Notes:

We had a smaller turnout than last month, it was nice to see everyone who was able to make it to the meeting.  We missed those of you who weren’t.

We started out by welcoming visitors… actually visitor.  Thanks for coming Spencer.  We also took a moment to admire the new grandbabies that our club members had brought along.  It’s a good thing to start them wheeling young!  It was great to see Emma Mae and Isaac.  They were both cute!

Dan Bevilaqua reported on the club run to the Lake Channel.  There were six rigs who met up at CBI and we made our way down to American Falls.  There we met up with Jason and about 10 rigs from Poky.  There, as Dan put it, the “rock ready rigs” went up the rock trail.  People had fun playing on the sand dunes.  Basically, a good time was had by all.

Eric graciously helped us out with an impromptu report on the Monster truck show.  He said they guys who volunteered basically did what they do every year.  They hung some banners, spread syrup on the floor, and then helped clean up afterwards.  Brent Orton entered the tough truck challenge at the urging of fellow club members and had a fun time.  Both SRO and Idaho 4x4 Association were mentioned during the show, so we got some good PR.  Thanks for volunteering guys.

We then went over the May calendar.  It’s going to be a busy month, which you could probably see at the top of this post!  See above.

We then set the date for Ennis in July, it will be the 11th and 12th.

We next talked about a club BBQ and tech inspection.  It will be at Scott Johnson’s house on June 7th at 1 p.m.  This is a chance to get together and see everyone else’s rigs, to make sure all rigs are up to snuff and… most importantly… to hang out with everyone and enjoy good company and food.

The next item on the agenda was talking about Wheelers for the Wounded, which is an event that should occur next summer.  We wanted to know if there was interest in the club, and there was.  Thanks folks.  Check it out at www.wheelersforthewounded.com

Scott Johnson reported to us on some issues the state association is working on right now.  The first issue is the Owyhee Initiative, which we’ve heard about over the last couple years.  Congress should be making a decision on that in the next several months.  The second issue is the Sandwash Area between Boise and Mt. Home.  WWOR does an annual clean up.  The BLM is currently looking at either shutting the area down completely, or having the state association assume responsibility for the management and clean up of the area on a temporary basis.  How things work out there could set a precedent for this area of the state as well.  Thanks for the report Scott.
